Q. I've never owned an iPhone, so I'm new to it.
I need something to back up everything so I can transfer all the apps, data, contacts, etc from my android to my new iphone.

A. Unfortunately Android apps won't work on an iPhone, You will be able to transfer all of your photos and contacts though.
Make sure your phone is set up to Sync to your email account (preferably Gmail)
Then when you get your iPhone and the store will be able to set it up for you they will have you enter in your Gmail information then you will have all of your contacts on your new phone.
For your photos you will have to eject the SD Card from your phone and buy a card reader and a micro SD card adapter which would only be about ($10)
Then you'll put your Micro SD Card into the Adapter and then put the Adapter into the SD Card reader
Plug the Reader into your USB port on a computer
Then open up to view files when a menu pops up
Make a folder on your desktop that says Photos on cell phone (or another name to be able to recognize your photos)
Drag your photos that should be in a DCIM folder on the reader into that folder you just created on the desktop
When you plug your iPhone into your computer and open up iTunes go to the Photos Tab and click Sync all photos
Then select certain photos which is underneath Sync all photos
Find your folder that you created with your cell phone pictures on it and drag it onto your iPhone which should be under the Devices tab in iTunes
Click on Sync and your photos will be transferred onto your iPhone

How do you download Android apps on your laptop?

A. If the 500mb refers to your data plan, then I suggest connecting your phone to wifi first. If the 500mb refers to your internal memory, the only other option is to use an SD card, then move them from the Settings> Applications menu. You select an Application, then select move to SD.

A. Apps keep running in the background, although they don't make any difference to the performance, installing lots of apps makes the phone sluggish because of all the cache and data. you'll see a really big improvement after you factory reset the phone.
