Q. I am hyped about switching to the Droid, but would like to hear from people who have switched as to what made you really happy or unhappy about the switch.
A. I went from Blackberry to Hero, to Moment, to Hero, to Droid :) I also purchased an Eris for my daughter who loves hers.
Drawbacks of the Droid, none that I've encountered. I love it.
My blackberry used to lock up on occasion, especially if using the internet, doesn't happen on the Droid. Browser is light-years ahead of the BB browser. App selection can't even be compared, plus you aren't spending $3 or $5 on some apps to change a theme, about 2/3 of the apps in the Android Market are free, and if you purchase one and return it within 24 hours, you'll get a full refund.
Since the Android OS is open source, it tends to draw developers who believe in the Open Source philosophy, making their apps available for free. Often they will have a "donate" option for $1 or $2, and if you like the app, I encourage you to purchase the paid version, but it's not necessary.
Responsiveness, is great on the Droid, GMail is Push, just like Blackberry's email, and you are not tied into a centralized Blackberry server, that when it goes down, takes out all of the U.S. and Canada's communications.
let's just say I have absolutely no intention of going back, nor will my daughter (was also on a Blackberry)
