How are android apps useful? Have you seen a research app?

Q. I got an android tablet (lifepad) for the purpose of browsing the web while travelling.

My friend suggested I get into apps...but what's the point? All the apps are pointless.

What is your opinion? How are apps useful?

If I ever get an app it will be a research app that is free and for android...but I have never seen one.

Best answer gets ten points--garanteed!

A. I don't know how you see it but many people buy androids for the apps. Because your traveling, getting apps might not be such a bad idea. There are plenty of useful apps like, daily planners, e-mail checkers, notepads, etc. Entertainment apps also give you something to do like watching Netflix, or going on YouTube. Then there are games. Although many games on androids are pointless, there are also games that are fine for playing on-the-go such as Chess, Minecraft, Tap Tap, Pac-Man. In my opinion, I love apps. There are apps for almost anything you can think of. There are dog whistle apps, flashlight apps, and so many more. The reason that I load mine up with apps is because you can never be to sure what app you might need.

For example, my visiting brother had to leave quickly because of change of plans. He found a very inexpensive flight back home and was able to return in less than a couple of days. If he never had his Kayak app who knows what could have gone wrong.

I know this is rather long, but the point is apps can really come to be useful during emergencies, or when you just want to sit back and relax. You could read a book, while listening to your favorite song, or just play a fun game of tic-tac-toe. Hope this changes your view on apps.

QR code reader. Do I have one?
Q. I have a samsung m400.
How can I tell if it has a QR Code Reader?

How can one determine if any version of mobile phone has QR code reader, (maybe someone out there has another cell besides mine. Perhaps a apple, or other brand of cell).

A. You pretty much just need a phone that can support external applications- iOS (Apple), Android OS, BlackBerry, Nokia's OS (forgot the name), HP, Windows Phone, etc... there's a lot of them. Most barcode scanner apps have QR code reading built into them.

If your phone supports Java (usually you'll see the Java logo when youstart certain applications), you probably have the ability to add it. Try checking out something like http://www.beetagg.com/en/supported-phones/ to see if that app supports it.

95% of the time, though, these are just links to something you can access via the mobile website for the company anyway... so there's not really a lot that's missed.
