Do you think Google is becoming next Microsoft in case of Android?

Q. I'm very surprised to see that with power of Google's Android, some hardware makers are giving tough time to handset makers like Nokia, Blackberry and iPhone. Some Chinese-Tainwanese-Korean companies are now taunting at Nokia just because they got Android. This is the same thing Microsoft did with PC so that PC makers just have to compete based on their hardware performance. Do you think the same thing will happen to smartphone market?

A. I don't think so. Microsoft's success was largely due to compatibility issues. Back then, I had a Commodore 64. My dad had a Kaypro. My school had a TRS-80. My friend had an Apple ][. My other friend had an Atari ST. There wasn't an Internet, so transferring data usually involved walking a 5.25" floppy disk from one computer to another. The problem was that each brand of computer formatted disks differently, so for instance, only a Commodore 64 could read a disk that was formatted with a Commodore 64. Therefore, I had no way of getting a document to my friend with his Apple ][.

Then Microsoft came along. PC's were great. Windows 3.1 was great. Before Windows 3.1, even DOS was great compared to competing operating systems of the day. Remember X-Tree Gold? There was nothing like that for Commodore or Apple ][. Suddenly, everybody was on the same thing, and we could all read each other's disks. That was as much a part of Microsoft's success as anything else.

Now, with the Internet, we don't need standard operating systems. I can e-mail you a document from my Linux computer, and you can read it on Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone, or most anything else.

Lastly, IMO, Android still has some catching up to do to meet the features of the iPhone. Android Market also only has a small fraction of the number of available apps as iPhone's App Store. Unlike iPhone's App Store, a large portion of Android Market apps are malicious. The only thing that Android has that I wish iPhones had was the talking navigator doodad.

I certainly hope that Android becomes the standard. I love the open source movement, and because Android is open source, there's lots of potential for the liberty of the platform.

Will the original Motorola Droid get any more updates?
Q. It's running Android 2.2.2 but I was wondering if it would ever see gingerbread or another update to the current Froyo software.

A. Most likely, no because the processor the original droid is using is pretty slow (550 mhz compared to the 600 mhz on the lg vortex (confirmed to receive the android 2.3.3 gingerbread update)) and the phone itself has gotten pretty slow after the update and I'm pretty sure that with the inclusion of gingerbread, the phone will suffer from a lot of lag in my opinion. And by the way, 2.2.2 is the current froyo update and won't receive anymore updates. Also, motorola already has 4 other droid models (droid x, droid 2, droid 2 global, and droid pro) that will seem more likely to receive the gingerbread update due to their 1 ghz processors (or 1.2 ghz in the droid 2 global's case)

What is such a major difference between Android, Windows Mobile, Mac, and PC.?
Q. So why do softwares specifically say that they can run only in Pc, mac, and i dont know what is android???
How they all different???

A. Android and Windows mobile are software (mobile operating systems; to be more specific) where mac, and pc are hardware (two different architectures)

Since Mac and PC are two different architectures (apples use PowerPC processors[1] while PCs use intelx86 processors[2]) they require different system software (operating systems) to operate; namely mac os[3] (Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; (by apple) being the latest release) and Microsoft Windows[4] (Microsoft Windows 7; (Microsoft) being the latest release)
btw both of them are not open source
[you can find linux builds for both of these architectures]
since the operating systems are different they require application software (applications you use in day to day life) that corresponds to that specific os.

in the case of Android[6] (by google) and Windows mobile[5] (by microsoft); they are two different mobile operating systems (for mobile devices such as mobile phones or portable media players)
the key difference of these two is the fact that Android is open source and Windows mobile is not,

finally now that there are intel apples[7], it is possible to run windows on macs; (using bootcamp[8]) which is not a hack but there are certain hacks that allow you to run osx on a PC[9]

Sum it all up
Mac - hardware
PC - hardware
Android - software (for mobile devices)
windows mobile - software (for mobile devices)
