A. Your HTC Hero uses an old version of Android (2.1, the current version is 4.2) which is isn't compatible with the new Facebook App. You'll either have to root the device and load a custom ROM or get a new phone in order to use it.

Windows Movie Maker converting from the new version to the old version need an answer asap?

Is it possible to upgrade Android OS on a smart phone?
Q. I'm planning to buy a smartphone - HTC Desire or SAMSUNG Galaxy S with Android 2.2. However I heard there is a new version of Android that will released later this year to the marked (version 3.0).

If I buy a phone now, is it possible to upgrade the OS later? Or is it suggested that I wait for sometime.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

A. So far there're just some phones with 2.2. As far as i know those are:

-Google Nexus One (just sold to developers)
-HTC Desire/Bravo
-Samsung Galaxy S

As HTC is seen as one of the main producers of Androidphones and the fact i own a Desire myself, i will take HTC as reference:
Considering that the most recently updated phone is the Desire (not the Droid) it's most likely that this phone gets an 3.0 update. Even though phones without an own software-package, like the Droid and Nexus One are "easier" to update since they got no own software to change, HTC phones seem to be sold more often and are therefore better supported.
BUT, and it's a big but, HTC produces alot of different phones in a rather short time. The Desire HD will come, a Desire Z was seen, so there might be a change of their flagship quite soon which will result in a change of their "update-ranking" as there has been with G1 and Hero before.

The Galaxy S is Samsung's first real hit on the Androidmarket and will most likely be updated as fast as they can, but even here you got the same problem, the I9200 will come and change the Galaxy S position.

Conclusion:
buy a "flagship" and you will most likely get a phone which will be updated to 3.0. If you want to make sure to get 3.0 (even though it's said not to change too much) you will have to wait. But then you will ask the same question about Android 3.1 or 4.0.
